You get what you focus on. So focus on what you want.

You get what you focus on. So focus on what you want.

Today I took these things off my clothes hangers (see photo). I should have done it ages ago!

Every time I opened up my wardrobe doors these taunting, little, plastic squares were staring down at me from the tops of my clothes hangers. A constant reminder of what I didn’t want to be. Most of the time I didn’t even notice them there, however, I was subconsciously taking in what they said every single day.

Today though, I really noticed them, and they hurt my feelings a little I remembered “You get what you focus on” and our environment is a powerful thing!

You get what you focus on.

I used to look in the mirror grab hold of those extra rolls and tell myself how fat I looked *Sigh*, feel shitty about myself, have zero motivation, laze about and eat some crap food. It was an ugly cycle getting me nowhere fast. We create what we focus on and not what we want. I wanted to lose weight and be healthier, but I was focusing on feeling fat and having low energy.

My massive shift happened when I decided to stop focusing on my weight. Instead I decided to focus on my health. Now when I eat, I ask myself “is this going to make me healthy?” and as it turns out my health is way more important to me than losing weight. Losing weight has just became an awesome side effect.

I’m certainly not saying I have the perfect body. I still have a few extra rolls when I sit down and I still eat cake from time to time, but I’m happy and healthy, and that’s all anyone really wants right? I keep focusing on my health and happiness and surprise myself with my progress all the time.

Most of us focus on what we don’t want. “I don’t want to look fat”, “I don’t want to feel anxious”, “I don’t want to be stressed” then this is what we end up manifesting and wonder why we have more of this in our lives. Change it around! Focus on what you actually want. Instead of focusing on weight, focus on being healthy. Instead of stress, focus on calmness. And instead of focusing on anxiety, focus on happiness.

This method is not about being in denial. You’ve heard the saying fake it until you make it right? Well this works a bit like that.

If we make these subtle changes big changes can start to happen.
I challenge you to take something in your life and flip it so you think of it differently.
My mum doesn’t particularly like washing the dishes (does anyone?), instead she chooses to focus on gratitude. She reminds herself how thankful she is that she has clean, running, warm water. And suddenly washing the dishes doesn’t seem so much of a chore.

What will you choose to focus on?
